Sea fennel, also known as Shihaipengzi or St. Peter's grass, is a salt tolerant plant found among rocks by the seaside. Sea fennel plants can grow up to 60 centimeters in length, with small and slender leaves that bloom yellow green small flowers. The stems and leaves are succulent and juicy, and the stems are soft and weak, able to survive through rock crevices. Their vitality is very strong. The leaves of sea fennel, as a vegetable, have a long history of consumption in Europe. Due to its high content of special mineral salts and vitamin C, sailors in ancient times would bring sea fennel out to sea for cooking and as a spice during navigation.
