Carnivorous lavender, also known as Seville head lavender, is a type of head lavender mainly distributed in the Illyrian Peninsula of Greece, southwestern Spain, and some scattered areas of Portugal. It has only recently gained widespread attention. Lavender essential oil is extracted from its flowers through distillation process. It is a yellow (slightly amber) transparent liquid with a strong herbal aroma, fresh and slightly sweet. The main components of the essential oil are very rare edible alcohol and edible ester.
Among the currently known essential oils, lavender is the only one that can inhibit collagenase and elastase. Lavender contains special alcohols and esters, such as erythritol and erythritol esters, which can inhibit the activity of collagenase and elastase, thereby reducing the loss of collagen, delaying the degradation of elastin, and slowing down the rate of skin aging, helping to maintain skin elasticity.
